La Vizcaína by Raúl Pérez "La Vitoriana", Bierzo, Spain

The La Vizcaína project, dating to 2011, is Raúl Pérez’s vision for single-parcel wines from his home village of Valtuille de Abajo in Bierzo that hew as close as possible to the Burgundy model. The 2021 vintage seems to be one of the best Bierzo has experienced since 2018. An aromatic nose of red flower this wine a;so gives you the taste of apples and blackberries with hints of chestnuts and back liquorish. Earlier harvesting allowed this wine to retain a brilliant elegance with a smooth finish.
