Domaine Marcel Lapierre, Morgon, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France
Domaine Marcel Lapierre is probably the most famous estate in Beaujolais among afficionados. Marcel met Jules Chauvet in 1981 and his winemaking was changed forever. Chauvet was a winemaker, a researcher, a chemist, and a viticultural prophet. It was he who, upon the advent of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the 1950s, first spoke out for “natural wine,” harkening back to the traditional methods of the Beaujolais. Marcel then introduced 3 other vintners in Beaujolais to Chauvet's teachings and they became known collectively as the "Gang of Four". They have since become the most highly allocated wines in Beaujolais. Since 2010 children Mathieu and Camille have led the estate forward. 2021 is a very fresh vintage and you can expect bright cherry fruit with crushed violets and anise. Pair with Annato Pork Tacos or Pork Belly Bites.
