Colombera & Garella "Pizzaguera", Lessona, Alto Piemonte, Italy

Colombera & Garella is a joint venture between vineyard owner Giacomo Colombera and trailblazing vineyard consultant Cristiano Garella.  Cristiano is one of the great spokespersons for the Alto Piemontese.  They make 3 bottlings under this label with the Bramaterra, Coste dell Sesia, and finally Lessona.  I find the Lessona to have the most lifted aromatics and to be the most approachable young, but they are all worth seeking out.  90-95% Nebbiolo and 5-10% Vespolina.  Fermentation in concrete and aged in large oak foudre.  Bright red cherry, fresh rose petal, and balsamic.  Pair with our House Meatballs.
